Job Summary

The Chief Accountant is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with local and international accounting standards, and effective financial controls. This role plays a critical part in supporting management with reliable financial information and ensuring the company’s financial integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and fixed assets

• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

• Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial records

• Maintain compliance with IFRS/local accounting standards and tax regulations

Controls & Compliance

• Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures

• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, audits, and tax filings

• Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies

Budgeting & Analysis

• Support budget preparation and financial forecasting

• Monitor expenses and analyze variances against budgets

• Provide financial insights and reports to management for decision-making

Team Leadership

• Supervise and mentor accounting staff

• Review team outputs and ensure adherence to accounting policies

• Support continuous improvement and training within the finance team

Systems & Process Improvement

• Ensure proper use and optimization of accounting systems and ERP tools

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiency

• Support system implementations or upgrades when required

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

• Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent) is a strong advantage

Experience

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience

• Proven experience in a senior or supervisory accounting role

• Experience with audits, tax compliance, and financial reporting

Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

• High attention to detail and accuracy

• Strong leadership and communication skills

• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications
